Nigerian comedian and social media influencer, Aderombi Adedayo Martins, popularly known as DeeOne, has accused Inspector-General of Police, IGP Tunji Disu, of shielding social media personality VeryDarkMan from arrest.
DeeOne made the allegation in an Instagram video on Tuesday while reacting to the police invitation extended to VeryDarkMan and his reported refusal to honour it.
The comedian questioned why VeryDarkMan had not been arrested despite allegedly failing to appear for questioning, while other public figures, including former Big Brother Naija housemate Tacha and businessman Blord, were arrested after reportedly failing to honour police invitations.
DeeOne argued that the same standard should apply to every Nigerian, regardless of status or influence.
Reacting to a post by VeryDarkMan concerning the police invitation, DeeOne alleged that the IGP was deliberately protecting the social media personality.
He said: “Fellow Nigerians, our current Inspector-General of Police, Mr Tunji Disu, is becoming a useless man. What is good for a citizen is also good for all citizens.
“Recently, former Big Brother Naija housemate Tacha was arrested by the Nigeria Police Force, NPF, because she failed to honour the police invitation twice. The police did the right thing to arrest Tacha, but she has been released on bail.
“Everybody in Nigeria knew the time B-Lord was invited by the NPF. According to the story that we heard, they said he did not honour the invitation or he did not come at the time they wanted him to come. And the police arrested him and charged him to court quickly, and the person who reported B-Lord was seen driving behind the van to escort B-Lord to prison.

“Today, VeryDarkMan has been invited by the same NPF twice. He has even come out on his platform to say that he will not honour the invitation. Now, to the IGP, you cannot be in office forever. And the information reaching us is that they are going to change you very soon.
“They have approved for VeryDarkMan to be arrested. The person that is holding the arrest now is IGP Tunji Disu. So, Nigerians, is this man working for Nigerians or working for VeryDarkMan? Because all of a sudden, VeryDarkMan seems to like this man.
“However, Tunji Disu, sir, DeeOne no send you oo. I swear to God, if I see you today, I will greet you as a respectful human being, but I will say it to your face that you’re becoming a very useless IGP. Anything wey you wan do, do am. If you want to arrest DeeOne, you can go ahead because DeeOne doesn’t stop and nobody can bring DeeOne down.
“You see that VeryDarkMan wey you dey defend, wey you dey say make them no touch am, go and ask him about me. I won’t say more than that. I greet you, sir. So, you will be expecting more videos. Sometimes, we can even go a little bit personal. Maybe some of your work wey you never do well or some of the things wey make them wan change you. So, we fit bring them to social media.”
The comments come after VeryDarkMan reportedly declined to honour a police invitation issued to him.
The social media personality was invited by the police following a series of allegations he made against Assistant Inspector-General of Police, AIG Jimoh Moshood.
DeeOne’s comments have since added another layer to the controversy surrounding the police invitation and the treatment of high-profile individuals who fail to honour police summons.
