Court Grants ₦5m Bail To Regina Daniels’ Brother, Sammy West, Over Alleged Harassment And Cyberbullying

A magistrate court in Dutse, Abuja, on Monday granted bail to Samuel Ojeogwu, popularly known as Sammy West, brother of Nollywood actress Regina Daniels, in the ongoing criminal case instituted against him by Senator Ned Nwoko.

Delivering the ruling, the magistrate admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of ₦5 million with two sureties in like sum, who must be residents within the court’s jurisdiction and provide verifiable means of identification.

West had earlier been remanded in Keffi Prison, Nasarawa State, before being transferred to Suleja Prison, following his arraignment on November 6, 2025, over allegations of harassment, intimidation, assault, theft, and cyberbullying.

According to court records, the charges stemmed from a petition filed by Senator Nwoko alleging that the defendant engaged in acts capable of breaching public peace and causing reputational harm through social media.

During the bail hearing, defence counsel, Marshal D.F. Abubakar, argued that the offences were bailable and that the defendant had credible sureties ready to meet the conditions. Prosecution counsel did not oppose the application but requested stringent terms to ensure the defendant’s attendance at trial.

In her ruling, the magistrate held that bail is a constitutional right that should not be withheld unnecessarily, adding that the purpose of bail is to ensure the defendant appears in court to face trial.

The matter was adjourned to November 28, 2025, for further hearing on the substantive charges.
