The Federal High Court in Abuja has refused an ex‑parte application seeking to restrain Senator Ireti Kingibe, who represents the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), from participating in activities of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) following her alleged suspension by her ward executives.
Justice Peter Lifu, ruling yesterday, held that such a request must be exercised judicially and judiciously, and that justice would only be served when the senator is given an opportunity to respond. He therefore directed the plaintiffs, Okezuo Godfrey Anayo and Isaiah Ojonugwa Samuel, to serve Kingibe with all court processes to enable her prepare her defence.
The matter, filed as suit number FHC/ABJ/CV/539/2026, was adjourned to April 20, 2026 for hearing of all applications. The plaintiffs, through their counsel Kolawole Olowookere, SAN, had alleged that Kingibe was suspended on March 10, 2026 for anti‑party activities, gross misconduct, and disregard of the ADC constitution. They sought interim orders restraining her from parading herself as a member of the party or performing any functions reserved for ADC members.
Justice Lifu declined to grant the interim injunction, stressing that the senator must be heard before any prohibition can be imposed. Meanwhile, counsel Abubakar Marshall, appearing for Kingibe, informed the court that he had filed a preliminary objection challenging the suit.
