Nafisat Abdullahi Aliyu, widely known as Coach Nafisat and Founder of The Dignity Network Foundation, successfully hosted the maiden edition of Beyond the Portal, a transformative empowerment event designed to inspire women across different ages and spheres of life.
The event brought together women from diverse professional and social backgrounds under one platform to engage in conversations centered on dignity, marriage, financial empowerment, leadership, and personal development. The initiative aimed to help participants move beyond limitations and embrace purposeful living.
One of the keynote speakers, Hajia Hafiza Onyinoyi Bello, spoke extensively on the dignity of women, emphasizing the importance of self-care, personal hygiene, and intentional self-presentation. She advised women to prioritize grooming, invest in their appearance, and cultivate habits that strengthen confidence within marriage. She further encouraged women to invest in themselves financially and not wait solely on their spouses before pursuing business opportunities.
Hajia Aisha Lami Abdulsalam focused her presentation on women and entrepreneurship, stressing the importance of financial independence before and after marriage. She encouraged women to start small-scale businesses and gradually build sustainable enterprises, noting that economic empowerment can protect women from vulnerability in marriage. She also urged mothers to equip their daughters with skills before marriage.
Mrs. Dami Njuli addressed the importance of raising responsible boy children, urging mothers to give equal attention to both male and female children. She emphasized that boys should be raised to become protectors rather than predators, noting that the values instilled in young boys directly influence their future roles as husbands and fathers. She discouraged favoritism, called for accountability in correcting male children, and urged parents to raise boys with responsibility, empathy, and respect.
Another speaker addressed women’s participation in politics and leadership, encouraging women not to be limited by patriarchal societal structures. The representative of Senator Shehu Sanni emphasized that women are capable of leading both at home and in public office, urging participants to pursue leadership roles and contribute actively to governance.
Contributing on women’s health, Colette Davidson highlighted the importance of premarital medical testing and awareness. She advised women to consider fertility tests and understand their partner’s health background before marriage, noting that such precautions can prevent avoidable marital challenges.
Mrs. Helene Paul Yusuf, a psycho-spiritual trauma counselor, spoke on marriage dynamics and emotional balance between couples. She emphasized the need for self-evaluation before considering divorce, clarified the difference between emotional and physical abuse, and encouraged couples to seek guidance from trusted elders when facing marital challenges.
The Mother of the Day, Hajia Mariam Adoke Ibrahim, advised younger women on the realities of marriage, stressing patience, tolerance, commitment, and mutual respect. She urged the younger generation to focus on self-development and approach marriage with maturity and responsibility.
Midway into the program, attendees participated in a scheduled networking and coffee session intentionally designed to encourage interaction. The session provided participants the opportunity to connect, exchange contacts, and build relationships. The networking break particularly helped introverted attendees engage more freely, creating a relaxed and collaborative atmosphere.
The event also featured an interactive panel session moderated by Coach Nafisat, where speakers addressed questions on marital intimacy, women’s financial independence, and balancing personal growth with family responsibilities. The discussions encouraged women to prioritize their health, pursue career development, maintain personal hygiene, invest in business opportunities, and avoid remaining in toxic relationships.
At the close of the event, participants engaged in a red-carpet session where they took photographs with guest speakers and interacted further. The red-carpet segment, hosted by Halima Debo, Director of Outreach for The Dignity Network Foundation, included short interviews with attendees. Participants shared positive feedback, describing the event as impactful and mentally uplifting, while expressing interest in attending future editions.
Speaking during the event, Coach Nafisat emphasized the importance of intentional self-development and community support among women. She noted that Beyond the Portal was created to serve as a catalyst for mindset transformation and to encourage individuals to step into higher levels of influence and responsibility.
“This is just the beginning,” Coach Nafisat said. “Beyond the Portal is not just an event; it is a movement aimed at restoring dignity, strengthening leadership, and building a generation of purposeful individuals.”
The successful turnout and positive feedback from attendees mark the first edition as a significant milestone, with plans already underway for subsequent editions to expand its reach and impact.
