Cher found her son Elijah Blue Allman’s absence in court a rewarding situation!
The singer has now received the judge’s approval to give her ongoing case in New Hampshire the attention needed to proceed, along with ground rules for her son to secure an attorney.
Cher has been working to ensure Elijah Blue Allman gets a legally appointed conservator to protect the six-figure annual trust distributions her son receives from Greg Allman’s estate.
The singer scored a procedural win in the ongoing conservatorship case as a Los Angeles court has now agreed to pause the proceedings. Meanwhile, a separate guardianship dispute is unfolding in New Hampshire.
As the case proceeded on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, Allman was notably absent from the courtroom and did not join the proceedings remotely.
The singer’s son’s decision to become a no-show in court posed an issue for Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Jessica A. Uzcategui, who brought up the topic of Allman’s legal rep moving forward. Uzcategui explained that Allman said he wanted to represent himself, but she told him that wasn’t possible.
The judge added that she had also instructed Allman’s attorney Steven Brumer, who also failed to show up to attend Tuesday’s hearing, which meant that she would reappoint counsel for Allman. In her words:
“Mr. Brumer is not here today, Mr. Allman is not here today, I am going to reappoint counsel. And then because we do not have Mr. Allman or a representative on his behalf here today, I am simply going to continue this matter.”
She also determined that the case should not proceed without Allman or someone legally representing his interests, leading her to postpone the case till December 1.
As shared by Page Six, the development temporarily puts Cher’s Los Angeles conservatorship petition on the back burner as attention shifts to the separate legal proceedings taking place in New Hampshire.
The Singer Earlier Sought 120-Day Pause On California Case To Focus On New Hampshire
4Cher’s victory came days after she filed a supplemental plea on August 28, asking that the Los Angeles court delay proceedings for about 120 days in order to give a New Hampshire court ample time to decide on legal guardianship.
The filing told the court that New Hampshire State Hospital began guardianship proceedings involving Allman on July 7, seeking oversight of both his personal welfare and financial affairs.
The petition also proposed his half-brothers, Chaz Bono and Devon Allman, as potential guardians, as the singer’s lawyer stressed that the New Hampshire court had already justified appointing a conservator to some extent.
The only question left is who may serve in that role, with options including his wife. Cher’s request for a pause in California thus hinged on whether the guardianship would be permanent or temporary.
However, the singer had clarified that if the New Hampshire arrangement becomes permanent and sufficiently protects Allman, she may let the California petition go.

4Although Allman decided to be a no-show for the hearing, his wife, Marieangela King, was spotted in court pledging solidarity to her husband’s cause. King explained in a statement that her support came from the 13 years they’ve been together and the love they share.
She stressed that, at the end of the day, her only priority is ensuring Allman gets a long-term, robust treatment plan. King acknowledged the estrangement between Allman and Cher, stating that the singer has repeatedly frustrated her efforts to gain access to him.
She insisted that making Cher Allman’s conservator would jeopardize her husband’s chances at making any meaningful recovery. Perhaps, Allman and his wife would finally see each other on December 1 if he shows up in court, which is also the date of their 13th wedding anniversary.
Cher has stressed that the lack of a legally appointed guardian to oversee her son’s estate since his condition greatly deteriorated is causing more harm than good with each passing day. She claimed he has developed a habit of running through trust distributions right after receiving them.

4In April, The Blast noted that the singer’s expectations to get a hold of her son’s estate management temporarily failed and putting a fiduciary, despite citing mental health issues that have taken a nosedive in recent times. The Los Angeles judge who presided over the case had thrown it out on the basis that it lacked the urgency required to rule in her favor.
The judge also added that her claims of Allman suffering declining mental health did not hold any water, as it was dismissed without prejudice, giving her the chance to refile the case if she so pleased.
Unlike his failure to remotely appear in this new case, Allman had joined the hearing via video call from the psychiatric hospital he was staying in an attempt to restore him to competency.
In September 2024, the singer notably voluntarily dismissed a petition she filed in 2023 to become the sole conservator of her son’s estate, saying they were focused on rebuilding their fractured relationship at the time.

In 2023, King accused Cher of kicking her out of her matrimonial home, which she shared with Allman, after Allman began receiving medical care in late 2022. The Blast stated that King claimed she was with Allman until late 2021 and that he failed to pay her spousal support after their separation.
“I have only received $25,000 total, half of the support owed. I had lost both my housing and healthcare and had to leave the country to stay with relatives for a while,” King claimed. The singer’s daughter-in-law emphasized in the court documents that Cher did not allow her entry into her primary home and residence, thus cutting her off from accessing her belongings.
She added that she also couldn’t access their storage unit, which held several valuables, including antiques, art, furniture from their second home in Beverly Hills, and other assets accumulated during their marriage. King did not stop there; she also accused Cher of arranging for Allman’s kidnapping during their anniversary, while resolving their marital issues.
