The Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) has revealed that its newly established Financial Investigation and Fraud Analysis Unit (FIFAU) has investigated over 500 asset declaration forms.
The Bureau’s Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Bello, disclosed this in a statement detailing his one-year stewardship. The statement, released on Tuesday in Abuja and signed by Mr. Moses Atolagbe, Director of Special Duties, was made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
Bello said the investigations — the first major project by FIFAU — uncovered discrepancies to support enforcement actions against erring public officers and promote integrity in public service.
According to him, “No fewer than nine ministers, 43 permanent secretaries, and 40 federal directors’ asset declaration forms have been verified,” ensuring greater accountability across top government positions.
He noted that the verification exercise is ongoing to build a robust compliance monitoring system.
Bello further stated that within one year of his leadership, the Bureau launched an online asset declaration system with downloadable CCB Form-1 available on www.ccb.gov.ng, making the process accessible to all public servants. He said the digitised system has saved the Bureau millions of naira previously spent on printing manual forms.
According to him, “No fewer than 199 CCB staff have been trained in investigation, verification, forensic analysis, and ethical governance,” enhancing institutional expertise.
He added that the Bureau had also established zonal offices, each headed by a Director, to handle intelligence gathering, investigations, prosecutions, and state-level supervision for faster enforcement.
To strengthen its anti-corruption mandate, Bello said the Bureau has partnered with local and international agencies, including the EFCC, ICPC, DSS, NFIU, and several foreign embassies.
He also noted that the CCB is now represented at global forums such as the Cambridge Economic Crime Forum and U.S. IVLO 2025, showcasing Nigeria’s anti-corruption drive and attracting international support.
Furthermore, Bello disclosed that the Bureau’s leadership has been admitted into the Association of Commonwealth Heads of Anti-Corruption Agencies in Africa, enhancing Nigeria’s regional influence in the fight against corruption.
He emphasized that the guiding principle of his administration is anchored on the Bureau’s renewed slogan, “Declare or Forfeit.”
Bello urged public officers to declare their assets, embrace transparency, and avoid corrupt practices.
NAN reports that Bello assumed office on October 23, 2024, following his appointment by President Bola Tinubu.
Upon assumption, he pledged to strengthen institutional integrity, improve operational efficiency, and advance Nigeria’s anti-corruption agenda.
