The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Nigerian Air Force, has begun a three-day operational tour of the Logistics Command in Lagos to evaluate the readiness of personnel and facilities supporting counter-insurgency and counter-terrorism operations.
The visit, which commenced on February 2, 2026, focuses on strengthening logistics capacity, maintenance efficiency, and workforce motivation.
Speaking during the tour, the CAS said sustained airpower projection depends on a resilient logistics system capable of supporting nationwide operations.
He said, “Lagos remains central to our capacity to project airpower nationwide. The efficiency of our operations is closely linked to the stability and cooperation we enjoy in the state.”
The CAS also paid a courtesy visit to Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, where he reaffirmed the strategic partnership between the Nigerian Air Force and the state government.
He commended the governor’s efforts in infrastructure development and security, noting that a stable Lagos is critical to national development.
Governor Sanwo-Olu, in his response, pledged continued cooperation with security agencies, saying, “Lagos will continue to work hand in hand with the Nigerian Air Force and other security agencies to preserve the safety of our people.”
The CAS highlighted the importance of joint security operations under Operation MESA, where air surveillance supports other security agencies.
At the commissioning of new facilities at 055 NAF Camp, Legico Barracks, the CAS stressed that personnel welfare remains central to operational effectiveness.
“Our commitment to personnel welfare is deliberate and unwavering. A motivated force is the foundation of mission success,” he said.
The projects include residential buildings comprising two-bedroom and one-bedroom flats, as well as a sports complex.
He said the facilities would help improve morale and allow personnel to focus fully on their operational duties.
The CAS commended his predecessor, Air Marshal HB Abubakar (rtd), for initiating the projects.
He also expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Federal Government, and the National Assembly for their support.
The CAS urged officers and airmen to remain disciplined and maintain good relations with host communities.
