‘Call of My Life’  grosses N78.2Million in debut weekend

Over the weekend of May 15 to 17, Call of My Life opened with a combined N76.5 million in its first weekend and an early cumulative N78.2 million, marking one of the strongest Nollywood romance debuts of 2026 so far.

The film immediately positioned itself as a breakout title in a competitive box office frame dominated by both Hollywood imports and local productions, reinforcing the continued commercial appeal of love-driven narratives in Nigerian cinemas.

Call of My Life is directed by Dammy Twitch, who also serves as editor on the project, with writing credited to Uzoamaka Power.

The Nigerian box office published the data on X showing the top 10 best perfoming movies over the weekend of May 15-17, 2026.

“Call of my life : N76.5M | N78.2M (New)”

Elsewhere on the weekend chart, The Devil Wears Prada held steady in its third week with N18.4 million, pushing its total to N150.8 million and maintaining its position as one of the strongest legacy Hollywood performers in the market.

New releases also made their presence felt, with The Boy Who Gave opening at N11.7 million, while Obsession debuted at N7.5 million. At the same time, Strong entered the chart with N2.9 million, rounding out the lower-tier new entries.

Mid-run titles continued to show resilience. Efonroye added N11 million in its third week to bring its total to N78 million, while The Sheep Detective earned N2.4 million in its second week, pushing its cumulative haul to N8 million.

Long-running animated feature The Super Mario Galaxy also remained in circulation, adding N2.2 million in its seventh week and lifting its total to N116.5 million.

The romantic comedy follows Soluchi, played by Power, a hopeless romantic recovering from heartbreak after being jilted by her former lover Kalu, portrayed by Zubby Michael.

Her emotional journey shifts when an unexpected work call connects her with Eli, played by Andrew Yaw Bunting, setting the tone for a renewed search for love. The ensemble cast also includes Beverly Osu, Nkem Owoh, Patience Ozokwor, Broda Shaggi, Justin Chukwudi Ugonna, and Ezekiel (credited as Justing UG).

Behind the camera, the production brings together a broad creative team. The film is produced by Blessing Uzzi (producer) and Abisola Yussuf (line producer), with original music and score composed by Cobhams Asuquo.

The film’s opening comes against a broader backdrop of recovery in Nigeria’s cinema industry, which recorded its strongest first-quarter admissions in six years. Total ticket sales rose to 752,136 in Q1 2026, signalling sustained rebound in theatrical demand and growing dominance of Nollywood productions at the local box office, according to Nigerian box office data released on Sunday, April 5, 2026.

The figure represents a steady rise from 661,720 admissions recorded in Q1 2025, shows a gradual but consistent recovery in cinema attendance after softer performances in previous years. Industry analysts say this momentum has been driven largely by stronger local content pipelines, improved marketing strategies, and a renewed audience appetite for theatrical experiences.

Within this improving landscape, romance-driven titles have continued to perform as key box office anchors. While Call of My Life delivered a solid opening, its performance sits below other breakout romantic releases such as Love and New Notes, which recorded N106.5 million in its opening day.
