The United States has delivered military equipment to Nigerian security agencies to support ongoing operations.
The United States Africa Command (AFRICOM) confirmed the delivery in a post on X on Tuesday.
“U.S. forces delivered critical military supplies to our Nigerian partners in Abuja,” the post reads.
“This delivery supports Nigeria’s ongoing operations and emphasizes our shared security partnership.”
The deployment comes after a Christmas Day air strike by US forces targeting ISWAP positions in Sokoto.
US President Donald Trump warned of further military action against extremist groups accused of attacking Christians.
In October 2025, Trump designated Nigeria a “Country of Particular Concern” citing allegations of genocide against Christians.
Trump described Nigeria as a “disgraceful” country and threatened military intervention if the government continued to “allow killing of Christians”.
AFRICOM stated that the delivery is aimed at strengthening Nigerian forces in counter-terrorism and broader security operations.
The command added that the move forms part of a wider US strategy to enhance operational cooperation with West African partners.
Nigeria has faced repeated attacks by armed groups in recent years, prompting international concern over regional security.
The Federal Government of Nigeria has yet to issue a formal response to the latest US support.
