A civilian plane has crashed in eastern France, killing the pilot and all 10 passengers on board.

Local authorities confirmed that 11 people died in the accident, which occurred near the airport in the town of Tomblaine on Sunday. Local media reported that the aircraft was carrying a group on a skydiving trip.

The prefecture said those killed included the pilot, five students and five instructors.

Following the crash, police urged residents to “strictly avoid” the area around the airport as emergency responders worked at the scene.

The French Ministry of the Interior also confirmed that Interior Minister Laurent Nunez was travelling to the crash site.

The latest tragedy comes about two weeks after another fatal plane crash in the United States claimed 12 lives near Butler Memorial Airport in Bates County, Missouri, south of Kansas City.

“Troopers are on scene assisting the Butler Police Department & Bates County Sheriff’s Office of a Fatal Plane Crash near the Butler Memorial Airport,” the Missouri State Highway Patrol posted on X.

“At this time reports indicate all occupants (12 total) have perished,” it said.

Missouri Highway Patrol Sergeant Justin Ewing said the aircraft was being used to take people on skydiving trips.
