BREAKING: Former Kano Governorship Candidate, Nasiru Gawuna Joins ADC [PICS]

A former governorship candidate in Kano State, Nasiru Gawuna, has formally defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Gawuna completed his registration on Tuesday at his Gawuna Ward in Nasarawa Local Government Area as the event drew a large crowd of supporters and party faithful.

He was issued his membership card in the presence of key political figures and stakeholders in the state.

Among those who attended the ceremony were former Kano State governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the immediate past deputy governor, Aminu Gwarzo, and the state chairman of the ADC, Musa Ungogo.

Speaking shortly after his registration, Gawuna appreciated his loyalists for standing by him through his political journey. He assured party leaders of his commitment to strengthening the ADC’s structure across Kano State.

He also promised to work with other stakeholders to expand the party’s reach at the grassroots.

His move to the ADC comes days after he officially resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC). In a letter dated March 29, 2026, addressed to his ward chairman, Gawuna described his exit from the party as a personal decision.

He thanked the APC for the platform it gave him to serve and contribute to its growth over the years. The former deputy governor noted that his time in the party helped shape his political career.

Before his defection, Gawuna had stepped down from his role as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria. His resignation took effect on March 31, 2026.

The decision followed a directive by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, asking political appointees with electoral ambitions to resign in line with provisions of the Electoral Act.

Gawuna, while reacting to his exit from the federal appointment, expressed appreciation to the President for the opportunity to serve. He described his experience in public service as a privilege.

He also referenced his previous roles, including serving as Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of Bayero University, Kano.
