Operatives of the Ondo state security network agency (Amotekun) have successfully rescued three nurses abducted by gunmen at a primary health centre in Akure, Ondo State.
Akogun Adeleye, the corps commander confirmed the rescue at the agency’s headquarters, stating the health workers were recovered around 4:30 a.m. on Saturday.
Earlier, a 45-year-old man and his 15-year-old son abducted from Pelebe community along Oda road, Akure, were also freed.
“The man and his son were kidnapped between 7:30 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. yesterday (Friday). The victims were, however, rescued by our men at about 1:00 a.m. after a heavy confrontation with the kidnappers,” Adeleye said.
The primary health centre in Oke Ijebu reportedly came under attack at about 2 a.m. Saturday, with the abductors forcefully taking the nurses in a bus.
A patient at the centre recounted that the attackers packed all victims into the vehicle before fleeing to an unknown location, while other staff on duty managed to escape.
“The three health workers earlier abducted have also been rescued at about 4:30 a.m. and are currently receiving treatment at the Amotekun health facility,” the commander added.
Adeleye reassured residents that the safety of lives and property remains a priority and urged the public to provide timely information to security agencies to enhance collective safety across the state.
