Berom Youths Condemn Plateau Attacks, Demand Action

The Berom Youths Moulder-Association (BYM) has condemned the coordinated attacks on Jol community in Riyom Local Government Area and Gero in Gyel District, Jos South LGA, Plateau State, which occurred on January 6, 2026.

The attacks reportedly claimed the lives of several individuals, including Mr. Pius Luka Dida, Markus Danladi, Peter, and Acham Ayuba.

BYM leader Dalyop Solomon Mwantiri described the incidents as a “grim reminder of the sustained and systematic terror being unleashed on indigenous communities of Plateau State.”

In a press statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Rwang Tengwong, the association accused the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) of complicity in the violence. The statement cited the MACBAN chairman’s claim that “Berom terrorists” had attacked Fulani persons as false and inflammatory.

The group highlighted that the attacks also caused significant economic losses, noting that armed herders destroyed dry-season farmlands in Kwi, resulting in losses estimated at over ₦14 million for local farmers.

BYM demanded the immediate proscription of MACBAN and called for the arrest, investigation, and prosecution of its leadership.

“We urge security agencies and international bodies to investigate Ibrahim Yusuf and Miyetti Allah in Plateau State,” the statement read.

The association also called for prompt compensation for affected families and farmers and the provision of adequate security to protect vulnerable communities.

The attacks have intensified concerns over recurring violence in Plateau State, which has witnessed long-standing tensions between indigenous communities and herders.

BYM’s statement underscores ongoing demands for accountability and stronger government intervention to prevent further loss of life and property in the region.
