Benue Mortuary Worker Arrested After Using Corpse’s Leg as Walking Stick

A mortuary attendant in Benue State has been arrested after he was allegedly caught moving around with a human body part in public.

The shocking incident happened in Agwabi community, located in Buruku Local Government Area, and has stirred reactions across the area.

The suspect, identified as Amaobi, was taken into custody by operatives of the Benue State Police Command on Friday morning.

His arrest followed reports that he had been seen using a severed human leg as a walking stick while heading to a nearby shop.

Eyewitnesses said the unusual sight caused panic and confusion among residents. Passersby reportedly stopped in disbelief as the man approached a local retailer to buy items. His actions quickly drew attention, leading to a gathering of concerned youths in the community.

The youths moved swiftly. They apprehended Amaobi and handed him over to the police for further questioning. The situation was brought under control before it could escalate.

During interrogation, the suspect admitted to the act. He claimed it was intentional. According to him, he wanted to draw public attention to a problem he had been facing for months.

Amaobi told investigators that more than 18 corpses of suspected criminals, killed by security operatives last year, were still lying in his mortuary. He said the bodies had not been evacuated or claimed, and the situation had become overwhelming.

He explained that his action was meant to send a message. He said he needed help and wanted the government to step in and address the issue.

Police authorities have since confirmed that the suspect remains in custody. They also stated that investigations are ongoing to fully understand the circumstances surrounding the incident.
