Suspected bandits have killed a member of the Katsina Community Watch Corps in an attack along the Kankara axis of the state.
Zagazola Makama, counter-insurgency and security analyst in the Lake Chad region, disclosed the incident in a post on X.
Makama said the attack occurred on March 7 at about 12:20pm, adding that the victim was attacked by a bandit leader identified as Tsoho and members of his gang while on his way to duty.
The victim was identified as Sani Kulle, a 35-year-old resident of Gidan Barmu village.
Kulle was reportedly travelling from his community to his duty post at Mararrabar Kankara when he was ambushed by gunmen riding on motorcycles.
Makama said the attackers shot the victim and fled with his rifle, adding that the divisional police officer (DPO) mobilised a joint police team to the scene after receiving the report.
The victim’s body was evacuated to the general hospital in Malumfashi, while a medical doctor at the hospital confirmed him dead.
“Efforts are ongoing to track down and arrest the perpetrators of the attack,” a source revealed in the report.
