Bandits attack Sokoto community, abduct nine

Armed bandits on Tuesday night invaded Tarah community in Sabon Birni Local Government Area of Sokoto State, abducting nine residents and injuring one.

The incident adds to the persistent pattern of attacks, kidnappings, and killings in the northern part of the state, where communities remain under constant threat despite ongoing security operations.

Local sources said the attackers struck shortly after members of the community’s vigilante group were redeployed to Katsira, leaving Tarah vulnerable at a critical time.

However, youth in the community reportedly mobilised swiftly to confront the assailants, a move that prevented what residents described as a potentially “more devastating assault.”

The latest attack has heightened concerns over the worsening insecurity in the area, particularly the frequency of mass abductions and targeted killings.

When contacted, the spokesperson of the Sokoto State Police Command, DSP Ahmad Rufai, said the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Sabon Birni had not yet submitted a full briefing on the incident. He assured that detailed information would be released to the public once available.
