UPDATE: The Nigerian Army has recovered the remains of a community leader, Chief Ibe Anyadu of Aggah Community, who was allegedly murdered by suspected criminals in the South-East.
The recovery followed the arrest of suspects linked to the July 31 attack, during which one soldier was killed and another injured.
According to the military, one of the suspects allegedly confessed to killing Anyadu and subsequently led troops to a shallow grave in Umudike Forest, where the victim’s remains were buried.
Two other suspects, identified as Melody and Albert Tony, also known as Chiboy, allegedly confessed to participating in the killing.
The exhumation was witnessed by members of the victim’s family and representatives of the community. His remains were subsequently handed over to his family for burial in accordance with traditional rites.
The Army said investigations are ongoing and assured that all persons found to be involved in the incident would be prosecuted in accordance with the law.
