The Nigerian Army has laid to rest soldiers who lost their lives during ongoing counter-insurgency operations in Borno state.
The burial ceremony took place on Friday at the Maimalari military cantonment cemetery in Maiduguri, where military officers, government officials and relatives gathered to honour the fallen troops.
In a statement on Saturday, Sanni Uba, the spokesperson for the North-East Joint Task Force under Operation Hadin Kai said the soldiers died while participating in ongoing military operations against insurgents in the region.
During the ceremony, Abdulsalam Abubakar, the theatre commander of operation Hadin Kai described the occasion as a solemn moment for the armed forces, noting that the fallen soldiers paid the ultimate price in the line of duty.
He said the troops demonstrated courage and commitment while defending the country and protecting civilians from insurgent threats.
According to him, the Nigerian military remains grateful for their service and sacrifice, assuring that their dedication to the nation will always be remembered.
Abubakar also reassured the families of the deceased personnel that the military would ensure their entitlements are processed and delivered to support their loved ones.
Also present at the event was Babagana Zulum, the governorof Borno State who was represented by Mustapha Ali Yabe, executive secretary of the Borno state security trust fund.
Speaking on behalf of the governor, Yabe expressed sympathy to the families of the fallen soldiers and commended members of the armed forces for their dedication to restoring peace in the state.
He added that the state government would continue to support the military in its efforts to combat insurgency and maintain security in the region.
