Former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has urged the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to present a strong and credible presidential candidate capable of defeating President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.
Speaking at the ADC national convention in Abuja on Tuesday, Amaechi warned that Tinubu would not willingly hand over power, stressing that the opposition must be strategic and united to stand a chance in 2027.
He advised party members to avoid ethnic and religious considerations in choosing a flagbearer, arguing that only competence and viability would position the party to build a winning coalition ahead of the polls.
Amaechi also referenced the 2015 political realignment that brought the All Progressives Congress (APC) to power, noting that the opposition must replicate a similar strategy if it hopes to succeed against the ruling party.
The ADC convention also faced logistical challenges, as the party claimed it was denied access to Eagle Square and the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja, forcing it to relocate its event to the Rainbow Event Centre.
