Leaders of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Oyo State have held parallel state congresses ahead of the 2027 general elections, deepening internal divisions within the party.
The two congresses were reportedly held on Saturday at separate venues in Ibadan — one at the party’s office in the Oke Itunu area and another at an event centre along the old Ife Road.
At the congress held at the party office, the incumbent chairman, Yinka Olona, was re-elected alongside other executives including Tiamiyu Abidikugu as deputy chairman and Bimpe Adelowo as publicity secretary, among others.
However, a rival congress at the event centre produced a different set of leaders, with Jimoh Adelowo emerging as chairman, alongside other officials elected for senatorial and youth positions.
The Olona-led faction insisted it would not allow any takeover of the party structure, as reports also indicate that parallel congresses were conducted at ward and local government levels across the state.
