An Abeokuta Chief Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday remanded a 55-year-old man, Ogunyemi Adetunji, for allegedly selling harmful herbal substance to three women.
Adetunji, whose plea was not taken, is accused of selling a fake liquid substance alleged to have caused injury to the victims.
The Police Prosecutor, Mr Solomon Babalola, told the court that the prosecution filed a motion ex parte seeking an order to remand the defendant pending legal advice from the Ogun State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
Babalola prayed the court to remand Adetunji for 60 days in the first instance at the Ibara Correctional Centre.
He alleged that Adetunji sometime in 2024 at the Obada-Oko area of Abeokuta allegedly sold a liquid substance to one Opeyemi Ewulo, claiming it could treat fibroid.
He added that the suspect also sold the same substance which is not NAFDAC approved to Enlyn Bassay and Patience Enyeonusi, which allegedly caused injury to their private parts after application.
The prosecutor said the offence contravened Section 21(1) of the Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) Act, 2015.
The Magistrate, Mrs A.K. Araba, ordered that Adetunji should be remanded at the Ibara Correctional Centre and adjourned the case until Dec. 19 for ruling on the application(NAN)
