ADC membership portal flooded with fake identities – Shettima

Kashim Shettima, Nigeria’s Vice-President has alleged that the online membership registration portal of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has been overwhelmed with fake names and fictitious identities.

Shettima made the remark during an interfaith breaking of fast hosted by President Bola Tinubu and attended by members of the federal executive council.

The vice-president mocked the opposition party for pushing strongly for electronic transmission of election results while struggling to manage its own digital membership registration system.

According to him, the ADC portal was flooded with false identities shortly after the party opened its nationwide online registration exercise on March 1 ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“The same Alliance for Democratic Confusion that was adamant that we must have electronic transmission of votes opened their portal for membership registration, and it was overwhelmed by an avalanche of fake names and fictitious identities,” he said.

Shettima accused the opposition of spreading misinformation.

“You and I know that, as Winston Churchill once said, ‘truth is so precious that it must be surrounded by a bodyguard of lies’. Lies, lies, lies — that is what is driving the opposition in this country,” he said.

He accused opposition groups of spreading misinformation and criticised their approach to digital processes.

Shettima also urged political office holders to defend the policies and achievements of the current administration as the next election cycle approaches.

He added that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is now in a stronger political position than it was during the 2023 elections.

The vice-president further dismissed claims that governors were being pressured to join the APC, insisting that those aligning with the ruling party were doing so voluntarily after seeing the direction of the government.
