ADC Crisis: Lawmaker Dumps Party, Cites Court Delays As Reason

By Paul Effiong, Abuja

In another twist to secure his political stability as 2027 general elections draw near, a federal lawmaker representing Yagba Federal Constituency, Hon Leke Abejide, has officially announced his exit from the African Democratic Congress,ADC, citing prolonged intra party crisis along with many legal battles.

The lawmaker further alleged hijack of the party by external political forces beyond his control.

Speaking yesterday in press briefing held in Abuja Abejide informed that his decision to leave the party became necessary to protect his political future and the interests of his supporters in Kogi State.

Speaking further, on his next political move, the lawmaker disclosed that he had earlier approached the Federal High Court in August 2025 to challenge the leadership structure of his former party and the role allegedly played by key coalition figures which include David Mark and Rauf Aregbesola.

He, however lamented that despite securing accelerated hearing for the case due to the approaching 2027 electoral timetable, repeated applications and interventions by the defendants have always delay the case.

He, therefore informed that he is leaving uncertainty over the party’s leadership and legitimacy expressing the hope that his legal team will advised him to seek an alternative political platform after concerns have emerged that ADC lacked properly recognized national officers capable of signing valid nomination forms ahead of the elections.

Again, the lawmaker also alleged that the coalition leaders had no intention of strengthening the party but instead sought to frustrate long-standing members who had built the platform for many years.

Abejide equally revealed that he had remained very loyal to ADC since 2019 and contributed significantly to its national growth and expansion.

Earlier, while responding to questions, the lawmaker declared his support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu Renewed Hope Agenda.

He also maintained that before his decision, several consultation were made with political associates, constituents and supporters before deciding to align with a more stable political platform with little or no frictions.
