The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has condemned the bomb explosions in Maiduguri, Borno State, which left 23 people dead and several others injured. In a statement issued on Tuesday by its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the party described the attack as a national tragedy and expressed sympathy to victims and their families.
The opposition party also commended emergency responders and security personnel for their efforts in assisting the injured and restoring calm. It, however, warned against a return to frequent attacks in Maiduguri, noting that the city had enjoyed relative stability in recent years.
Raising concerns over Nigeria’s security situation, the ADC said the incident highlights ongoing weaknesses in the country’s safety architecture. The party stressed that such attacks continue to expose gaps in efforts to safeguard lives and property.
The ADC criticized the federal government’s response, expressing concern that Bola Ahmed Tinubu is currently outside the country at a critical time. It argued that moments of national crisis require the full attention of leadership and accused top officials of prioritizing politics over security.
The party called on the president to return and take charge of the situation, urging the government to prioritize the protection of citizens. It also suggested compensation for victims’ families and emphasized the human cost of insecurity, warning that the situation is both unacceptable and condemnable.
