What Tems did for African female artistes – Tyla opens up
South African music star, Tyla has given accolades to her Nigerian counterpart, Temilade “Tems” Openiyi, for being a major support system for other female entertainers.
The Amapiano singer claimed that Tems opened the doors of global recognition for young African female artistes like herself to shine.
Tyla gave credit to the ‘Try Me’ hitmaker when she had an interview with Kiss Fresh, UK. She admitted that Tems is exceptionally talented as she relished working with her on her eponymous debut album.
The 22-year-old artiste featured Tems on ‘No 1’ a track off her debut eponymous album ‘Tyla’ which was released earlier this month.
Speaking on the experience, Tyla said; “Working with Tems is amazing. She is so talented. She is literally a force. I’m so honoured to have worked with her. She has opened so many doors for us [young African female artists].
“We made such a beautiful song with such a beautiful message. It is a song for the girls and it is made by the girls.”
Meanwhile, CorrectNG reported earlier that the South African musician recounted how Tems caused a delay in the release of her debut album.
She said Tems sent in her verse for the track titled “NO 1” just as she was about to submit it to her record label, so she had to tell them to hold on.
Tyla made this disclosure during a recent chat on MTV Live, as she noted that she accorded Tems the status of “Queen” of African music hence why she was given preferential treatment per the project.
The ‘Water’ hit-maker also revealed that she has been working on her debut album named ‘Tyla’ after herself, for almost three years. She finally released the eponymous debut music project last Friday and it contains 14 tracks.
Speaking on the project, Tyla said; “I was about to submit the album then Tems sent her verse over and I was like wait, Tems just sent a song, I mean she’s the Queen.”
