Don’t release Nnamdi Kanu – Asari Dokubo tells Tinubu

Kanu has been in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) since his re-arrest in 2021, as he faces terrorism charges. In 2017, a Federal High Court in Abuja granted him bail, but he violated the conditions and left the country.

There has been pressure for Kanu’s release, but former President Muhammadu Buhari resisted it. With the new administration in office, there are renewed calls for his release. The topic of Kanu came up during Governor Peter Mbah’s meeting with President Bola Tinubu.

After meeting with President Tinubu, Dokubo, in a statement to reporters, expressed the view that Kanu should be brought to justice. He argued that releasing Kanu would encourage impunity and referenced Kanu’s actions during the EndSARS protests, suggesting that he exacerbated the situation. Dokubo stated that Kanu should be held accountable for the lawlessness and instigation he was involved in.

However, Dokubo’s comment has generated mixed reactions on social media. Some individuals, like Kunle, questioned why Kanu should be released, placing the responsibility on the person who initially arrested him. On the other hand, Chukwuma criticized Dokubo, calling him a busybody seeking attention and rehabilitation under the current administration, cautioning Tinubu to be cautious of him.
