Nigerian Singer Ikesima Brown and Others Die in Accident

Ikesima Brown, the renowned Nigerian singer known as the Niger Delta Queen of Highlife Music, tragically lost her life along with six other members of Chief Barrister Smooth’s prominent Ijaw musical band. The fatal accident occurred on Sunday, June 11, when their bus collided with a petrol tanker on the Abuja/Lokoja highway in Kwale community, Delta State.

The band members were en route from Warri to Abuja for a scheduled show on Tuesday, June 13. They had been commissioned by a state government to perform at the swearing-in reception of some National Assembly members in Abuja. According to an eyewitness, the band members had taken a train from Warri to Kogi and then continued their journey in a Toyota Sienna car to Abuja when the devastating crash took place.

The deceased musicians have been identified as Chief Joseph Ekeremieye, Ikesima Brown, Ebis Awiki, Tuku, and others. Their bodies have been transferred to the morgue of the Federal Medical Centre in Lokoja.

Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, expressed deep sorrow over the twin accidents that claimed the lives of at least 10 Ijaw indigenes. He described the incident as a Black Sunday for Bayelsa and the entire Ijaw nation, stating that the state is now engulfed in mourning.

Governor Diri extended his condolences to the families of the deceased and Barrister Smooth, recognizing the significant loss of these young talents who were making a positive impact through their music. He offered prayers for God’s comfort to the grieving families and a swift recovery for those who sustained injuries in the accident.
