Police Investigate Attack on Ebonyi Communities by Gunmen

Vanguard news reported that the Ebonyi State Police Command has confirmed an attack on two communities in the state by suspected gunmen on Friday night.

The communities attacked are Nkalaha and Ezzagu, both in Ishielu Local Government Area of the state.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, SP Onome Onovewakpoyeya, confirmed the incident to newsmen on Saturday in Abakaliki.

He said that the gunmen invaded the communities at about 11:00 pm on Friday and started shooting sporadically.

He said that the gunmen also set ablaze some houses and shops in the communities.

He said that the police were on the trail of the gunmen and that normalcy had been restored to the communities.

He said that the Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Aliyu Garba, had directed the Divisional Police Officer in Ishielu LGA to fish out the perpetrators of the crime and bring them to justice.

He said that the police would not relent in its efforts to protect the lives and property of the people of the state.

He urged the people of the state to remain calm and cooperate with the police in the fight against crime.

The attack on the two communities is the latest in a series of attacks on communities in Ebonyi State in recent months.

In April, gunmen attacked the Ezza North Local Government Area of the state and killed at least 15 people.

In May, gunmen attacked the Ohaukwu Local Government Area of the state and killed at least 10 people.

The attacks have raised concerns about the security situation in Ebonyi State.

The state government has condemned the attacks and vowed to bring the perpetrators to justice.

The government has also deployed security operatives to the affected communities to beef up security.
