Tinubu’s Dictation: Fuel Subsidy Removal Sparks Outrage And Betrays Promises, Trade Union Alleges

The President of the Trade Union Congress (TUC), Festus Osifo, has raised allegations against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, claiming that he has already begun dictating terms to Nigerians by removing fuel subsidies. Osifo expressed his concerns during an interview with Channels TV, pointing out that the President failed to consult with the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and TUC before implementing this decision.

According to Osifo, it was expected that the Trade Union, which represents the Nigerian masses, would have been duly informed by the Presidency prior to the formulation of such a policy. He argued that President Tinubu has deted from his promise made during his inauguration speech, in which he pledged not to dictate terms to Nigerians.

Osifo stated, “If you listen to the President’s speech, you will notice that in the early stages, he clearly stated that he would consult and refrain from dictating to Nigerians. So, the question arises: Was consultation carried out regarding the fuel subsidy removal? The answer is a clear no. The President stated he would not dictate, yet he has now resorted to dictating terms to Nigerians at such an early stage. Before delving into sensitive issues and areas, discussions are crucial. For us, this discussion is essential because we represent the Nigerian workers and the entire population.”
