Diezani Drags Malami, EFCC To Court

Aformer Minister of petroleum resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke, has filed a defamation lawsuit against the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of justice, Abubakar Malami, as well as the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over a series of publications by the commission alleging that she stole billions while in office.

The court document filed on May 26, and obtained by SaharaReporters on Friday, said the anti-graft authority had authored several reports in a manner that portrayed the former official “as a common looter of the national wealth and a debased and corrupt public officer.

APC NWC Member ‘Joins SDP’

A member of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Hon. Muritala Yakubu Ajaka, has resigned.

The former NWC member conveyed his resignation in a letter to Senator Abdullahi Adamu, National Working Committee (NWC) member of the party.

Sources told Daily Trust that Hon. Ajaka, who was screened out of the APC governorship primary has joined Social Democratic Party (SDP).

SDP posters of Ajaka are found in strategic places in Lokoja, the state capital, and some parts of Kogi.

However, there is yet to be official confirmation of his SDP membership.

Another source said he is currently negotiating with SDP to fly its flag in the November 11 governorship election.

Ajaka did not state his next political move to the APC chairman, but said he hoped to meet again with the NWC members.

Nigerian Government Declares Public Holiday For May 29 Swearing In

The President Muhammadu Buhari-led Nigerian government has declared Monday, May 29, the Inauguration Day of the “president-elect”, Bola Tinubu as a work-free day for workers nationwide.

Recall that the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Usman Alkali Baba had also said that the May 29 date set for the inauguration of the Bola Tinubu was sacrosanct.

The police chief had said this while addressing journalists in Abuja.

He had described people making threats regarding the inauguration of Tinubu as unpatriotic brands, saying the police would defend Nigeria’s democracy.

He said the national intelligence community had been closely monitoring the activities of political elites and other elements “fantasising” about subverting national security interests.

Grammy-nominated afrobeat musician, Seun Kuti has recounted his experience in police detention.

The singer was remanded at the State Criminal Investigations and Intelligence Department, SCIID, Panti, Yaba, Lagos on the orders of the Yaba Chief Magistrate Court for assaulting a police officer in a viral video.

DAILY POST reported that Kuti was finally granted bail on Tuesday after spending eight days in detention.

Taking to his Instastory on Friday, Kuti shared his harsh experience in jail.

He said he was made to lay down on a “hard cold floor, in the midst of prisoners.”

He, however, added that it was “still better than sitting in the devil’s house with politicians.
