Officers said the suspect originally worked for a cleaning company. It is based in Jada city, Jada province administrative district. The victim’s place of residence has not been released, but the boy’s parents are believed to live in the same town and municipality of Jada as the suspect who provided the information needed for the abduction.

On the day of the abduction, May 12, 2023, the suspect successfully kidnapped a 6-year-old boy and took him into a bush. He then contacted his parents about paying the ransom. A police statement said the suspect requested N3.5 million, but the boy’s father, Muhamed Buba Aliyu, was only able to collect N50,000.

The report said the suspect was furious when the boy’s father told him he was being given only 50,000 naira. The boy spent two days with him in the bush before being provoked to strangle him. It is not clear if the suspect ended up collecting the 50,000 naira or just killed the boy in a fit of frustration.

Abubakar Kaw confessed to killing the boy in exchange for a small ransom offered by the boy’s father when he was taken away. Provincial Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Suleiman Yahaya Nugroj, said the suspect will be charged in court soon. He also called on his parents to always look out for their children. They are very jealous, so you should never leave your eyes unattended in dangerous places.
