According to the Nigerian Tribune, the incident took place when some military vehicles attempted to enter the campus but were obstructed by university security due to the presence of tinted windows on their cars.

Nevertheless, it was stated that the military personnel forcefully entered the university premises, yet the only security officer stationed at the entrance stood his ground and resisted their intrusion, resulting in the soldiers subjecting him to harassment.

When Inuwa arrived at the location and sought information about the incident, the soldiers proceeded to physically attack him.

Upon hearing about the mistreatment of the ASUU chairman, the students at the institution demanded that the troops be handed over to them so that they could be disciplined,” nearly escalating the situation into a grave crisis.

As the troops approached, driving a Toyota Corolla and a Toyota Camry, the students took action by barricading the exit gate and sealing off the two entrance gates. They expressed their anger by pelting the vehicles with rocks and various projectiles.

Ultimately, they proceeded to puncture the tires of both cars and shatter their windshields, windows, lights, and other parts.

Inuwa recounted the incident to the media, stating that as he was leaving the campus, he observed the troops intimidating the security guard who was stationed at the gate. Concerned, he halted his movement to investigate the situation.

When he got to the troops to inquire about the situation, one of them questioned his identity and proceeded to subject him to verbal abuse and physical aggression.

“I approached them and asked our security personnel in Hausa what was going on. To my surprise, these individuals in the two vehicles responded arrogantly, asking, “Who are you?’ and began insulting me,” he stated.

“I asserted that I simply wanted to understand what had occurred, but one of them retorted, “You’re incredibly foolish! Do you even know who we are?

“I reminded them that we are in a university where rules govern our conduct, and without warning, they started pushing me. To my shock, one of them went to the extreme and slapped me repeatedly, three times in a row.”

“I made it clear to them that their actions were unjust and warned them that they would face consequences. You can even see the marks of the slaps on my face,” Inuwa recounted.

He further mentioned, “They continued to berate me, calling me stupid for daring to speak up. They kept assaulting me, demanding that I remain silent. It was at that moment that the number of security personnel increased, prompting us to instruct them to block the gate as we needed to ascertain their identity.”

“They are asserting that they are military personnel, yet they are reluctant to provide us with their details. They were dressed in civilian clothing and forcibly gained entry into the university.”

Our union has been informed about the incident, and we require their information to draft a letter addressing the Chief of Army Staff and informing him of the situation.”

The ASUU chairman expressed his deep disappointment, emphasizing that the soldiers’ actions violated the protocols of the institution.

He stressed that no one should be allowed to disregard military protocols in the manner that these soldiers did at the university.
