Governor Akeredolu loses mother

Governor of Ondo state, Rotimi Akeredolu’s mother, Mrs Grace Akeredolu is dead.

The sad news was announced by Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Richard Olatunde on Thursday, September 15.

A statement said the deceased passed on peacefully in her sleep on Thursday morning.

The statement read, “She is survived by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and other family members.

“Further announcements will be made by the family in due course.”

She was 90.

In other news, Queen Elizabeth II, the UK’s longest-reigning monarch, died Thursday after 70 years on the throne.

She was 96.

The Queen ascended to the throne in 1952 and witnessed enormous social change.

A statement by Buckingham Palace on Sept. 8 said: “The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon.

“The King and the Queen Consort will remain at Balmoral this evening and will return to London tomorrow.”

Following her demise, Prince Charles, her eldest son and the former Prince of Wales, will lead the country in mourning as the new King.

BBC reports that the monarch’s family gathered at her Scottish estate on Thursday, September 8th after concerns grew about her health.

Doctors had earlier placed the Queen under medical supervision and, in that time, all her children travelled to Balmoral, near Aberdeen.

Queen Elizabeth II’s tenure as head of state traverses post-war austerity, the transition from empire to Commonwealth, the end of the Cold War and the UK’s entry into – and withdrawal from – the European Union.

Her reign spanned 15 prime ministers starting with Winston Churchill, born in 1874, and including Liz Truss, who was appointed by the Queen earlier this week.

The Queen was born Elizabeth Alexandra Mary Windsor, in Mayfair, London, on 21 April 1926.

King George VI was her father and, at age 10, Elizabeth who was fondly known as Lilibet in the family, became heir to the throne.
