American researcher decries how Nigerian police extort him through online transfer
An American researcher and journalist, James Barnett has lamented over the extortionist pattern of officers in the Nigeria Police Force.
Barnett, who is based in Nigeria decried how policemen demand bribes through transfers whenever he informs them of that he’s cashless.
According to him, the officers give him their bank account numbers to send the money at his own convenience.
The Hudson Institute fellow made this known while reacting to a tweet from Matthew Page, a diplomat based in Nigeria.
Matthew ha said that a tip which will help people stay safe in Nigeria is to avoud the police.
In response, Barnett wrote; ”My first tip was going to be “hide your cash at police checkpoints” but my experience the past few weeks has been that they’ll gladly give you their account details so you can make transfer “at your convenience”
