AAC Presidential Candidate Seeks Equal Treatment, Citing Arrangements Reportedly Made for APC
The presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, has asked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to approve the use of the Presidential Villa, Aso Rock, Abuja, for the inauguration of his party’s Presidential Campaign Council ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The party also requested food, drinks and other logistical support for about 5,000 participants expected to attend the event scheduled for November 11, 2026.
The requests were contained in a letter dated October 21, 2026, and signed by the AAC National Secretary, Oshiokhue Philip Ikpeminoghena.
In the letter, the party said its request was based on the principles of multiparty democracy, political inclusiveness and equal treatment of political parties.
The AAC also referred to arrangements reportedly made for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for a similar political engagement, arguing that opposition parties should receive fair treatment.
The party stated that approving its request would demonstrate the Presidency’s commitment to fairness and ensure that public institutions were not used to favour one political party over others.
It further asked the President to provide information on the procedures and conditions required to secure approval for the proposed inauguration.
The request comes as political parties intensify preparations for the 2027 general elections, with the AAC seeking access to the seat of government for its campaign council inauguration.
As of the time of the report, no response from the Presidency regarding the request was included in the report.
