ADC Campaign Spokesperson Praises Atiku’s Presidential Ambition, Criticises Tinubu’s Economic Management
Dele Momodu, Deputy Director-General of Media and Communications of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) Presidential Campaign, has claimed that President Bola Tinubu knows former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has the experience and capacity to lead Nigeria.
Momodu made the assertion on Thursday during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today, where he defended Atiku’s presidential ambition ahead of the 2027 general election.
Describing Atiku as a focused and deliberate politician, Momodu said the former vice president had demonstrated a longstanding commitment to becoming Nigeria’s president, dating back to his first presidential contest in 1993.
“When I say he (Atiku) is the best, it is a statement of fact and even President Bola Tinubu himself knows that,” Momodu said.
He further claimed that Tinubu had previously invited Atiku to work with him politically, arguing that their past interactions showed the President was familiar with Atiku’s political experience and leadership credentials.
Momodu Compares Presidential Aspirants
The ADC chieftain compared the political records of Tinubu, Atiku and Peter Obi, the presidential aspirant associated with the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).
He identified Tinubu’s tenure as governor of Lagos State, Atiku’s experience as vice president and Obi’s administration of Anambra State as important parts of their respective leadership records.
Momodu argued that Tinubu had underestimated the challenges of governing Nigeria by assuming that his experience in Lagos would be sufficient at the national level.
He maintained that Nigeria’s political and economic realities were more complex than those of Lagos State.
ADC Chieftain Faults Tinubu’s Economic Management
Momodu also criticised the Tinubu administration’s handling and communication of the country’s economic situation.
He alleged that some officials responsible for managing the economy were more concerned about telling the President what they believed he wanted to hear than providing an honest assessment of the challenges confronting the country.
“What is lacking in this government is that sincerity. Everything is about one man,” Momodu said, arguing that the government needed greater transparency in communicating economic realities to Nigerians.
His comments come as political parties and prospective candidates intensify preparations for the 2027 presidential election.
The ADC is positioning itself to challenge Tinubu’s re-election bid, with party figures increasingly making public arguments about their candidates’ experience, leadership records and policy direction.
Momodu’s remarks represent the ADC campaign’s assessment of Atiku’s credentials and the incumbent administration’s performance as the political contest ahead of 2027 gathers momentum.
