2027: Ezekwelu pledges youth, women empowerment, education in Idemili

Dr Kingsley Ezekwelu, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for Idemili North and South Federal Constituency in Anambra State, has pledged to prioritise youth development, women’s empowerment, education and healthcare if elected to the House of Representatives in the 2027 general election.

Ezekwelu made the pledge during the continuation of his thank-you tour of the 17 communities in the constituency, with the latest engagement held in Obosi.

He said his proposed legislative agenda was designed to address the needs of the people through skills acquisition, educational assistance, youth empowerment, support for women and improved access to healthcare.

The APC candidate said he was visiting the communities to appreciate residents and political stakeholders who supported his victory at the party’s primary election.

According to him, the tour also provides an opportunity to explain his plans for the constituency and seek continued support ahead of the January 16, 2027 poll.

Ezekwelu described youth development as a central pillar of his proposed representation, noting that young people needed practical opportunities to develop their skills, become economically productive and contribute meaningfully to society.

He disclosed that, if elected, he planned to organise youth orientation programmes, workshops and seminars across the 17 communities within his first six months in office.

He said the programmes would encourage young people to embrace discipline, personal development and community service while discouraging drug abuse, criminal activities and other social vices.

The candidate also argued that youth empowerment should go beyond the distribution of cash and food items, stressing the need for sustainable initiatives that would equip beneficiaries to become self-reliant.

He listed support for young people who had completed apprenticeship training, educational assistance for qualified students and skills acquisition programmes among the initiatives he intended to pursue.

“Idemili North and South communities occupy the front seat position of my ‘Build the youth, build the nation, empower the women, empower the nation’ programme,” he said.

On women’s development, Ezekwelu said his proposed agenda included a revolving support scheme intended to assist women and strengthen their economic activities. He also identified healthcare provision as an important component of his plans for the constituency.

The APC candidate expressed appreciation to Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu for his mentorship and leadership, acknowledging the importance of experienced political figures in shaping his political journey.

Ezekwelu had earlier outlined similar commitments during an engagement at the Nkwo-Agbaja Civic Centre in Abatete as part of his tour of the constituency’s communities.

Party stakeholders, including community and religious leaders, the party’s candidate for the state constituency, the local government chairman of the APC and other senior party officials, attended the engagement.

Ezekwelu is seeking to represent Idemili North and South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives in the 2027 general election.
