The Oba of Benin, His Royal Majesty Oba Ewuare II, has thrown his weight behind President Bola Tinubu’s bid for a second term, urging Nigerians to give the President another mandate in the 2027 election.
The monarch said Tinubu should be allowed to continue with what he described as the good work of his administration, arguing that leaders who are performing well deserve the opportunity to consolidate their efforts.
Oba Ewuare II made the remarks on Tuesday when he received the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council (PCC), led by its Director General, Abdulazeez Yari, at his palace in Benin City, Edo State.
The monarch expressed his support while responding to the campaign council’s visit and its efforts ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
“For somebody who is doing well, it is our prayer that he gets a renewed mandate,” Oba Ewuare said.
Oba urges support for Tinubu
The Benin monarch further appealed to Nigerians to focus on the President’s performance rather than allowing political disagreements to overshadow what he described as positive developments.
He invoked a biblical teaching in making the case for continued support for Tinubu, urging those who believe the administration is making progress to work with the President.
“Let he who is without sin cast the first stone. If one is doing well, why not join hands with the president to do what he is doing well. Let President Tinubu finish the good work,” he said.
The comments amount to a significant endorsement from one of Nigeria’s prominent traditional rulers as political activities ahead of the 2027 presidential election gather momentum.

Oba Ewuare II also used the occasion to convey his appreciation to Tinubu, recalling the President’s reception when the monarch visited Abuja.
“Convey my best wishes to Mr. President, give my appreciation to the president for receiving me so warmly in Abuja,” he told the APC delegation.
Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid has continued to generate competing positions from political parties, opposition figures and influential Nigerians as preparations for the next presidential contest intensify.
The Oba of Benin’s comments add his voice to the growing political conversation over whether the President should be allowed to continue in office beyond his first term.
