Ifeoluwa Akinmade, a 200-level medical student of the University of Ibadan (UI) has reportedly died after consuming a harmful substance.
The incident was announced in a statement jointly signed by Folusho Olu-Adegbola and Babatunde Dauda president and general secretary of the UI Medical Students Association (UIMSA).
According to reports, the student was initially treated at a facility within the university before being transferred to the University College Hospital (UCH), where he later died.
A social media user who cited the hall warden of Nnamdi Azikiwe Hall claimed the student was suspected to have ingested a substance believed to be Sniper.
Another online post alleged that the incident may have been linked to a low continuous assessment (CA) score, although university authorities have yet to officially confirm this claim.
The spokesperson of UCH confirmed that the student was brought to the hospital after reportedly consuming a toxic substance but did not survive.
As of the time of reporting, the university management had not released an official statement on the circumstances surrounding the death.
