Zenith Bank Plc has announced the appointment of Mr. Kennedy Onuwa Okwudili as an Executive Director, effective May 1, 2026, in a move aimed at strengthening the bank’s executive management and reinforcing its long-standing succession strategy.
The appointment, disclosed in a statement issued from the bank’s head office in Lagos on March 23, 2026, aligns with Zenith Bank’s tradition of promoting leadership from within its ranks.
Mr. Okwudili brings over 25 years of banking experience to the role, having built a career that spans key areas including credit and marketing, treasury, compliance, and operations.
Throughout his tenure at Zenith Bank, he has served in multiple strategic roles across various departments and regional zones, contributing to the bank’s operational growth and risk management framework.
A seasoned finance professional, Okwudili holds a Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Accounting from the University of Maiduguri, obtained in 1998 with a Second Class Upper Division.
He later earned a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, in 2008, and a Master of Science in Accounting from Veritas University, Abuja, in 2021.
He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), a status he attained in 2013, and was inducted as a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN) in 2024. In addition, he is an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN).
Further strengthening his professional profile, Okwudili has participated in several executive education programmes both locally and internationally. These include the Senior Leadership Development Programme at Lagos Business School, the Corporate Directorship Programme at Harvard Business School, and the Oxford Advanced Management and Leadership Programme at the University of Oxford’s Saïd Business School.
Beyond his corporate responsibilities, he currently serves as the President of the Catholic Bankers Association of Nigeria (CBAN) and is a member of the Noble Order of the Knights of St. John International (KSJI).
Zenith Bank stated that the appointment is expected to enhance its leadership capacity as the institution continues to navigate evolving market conditions and pursue strategic growth initiatives.
The bank is chaired by Jim Ovia, CFR, while Dame (Dr.) Adaora Umeoji serves as the Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer.
