The Zamfara State government has appealed for greater humanitarian support to assist thousands of internally displaced persons (IDPs) and vulnerable families across the state.
Commissioner for Humanitarian and Relief Matters, Salisu Musa Tsafe, made the appeal in a statement on Thursday, noting that Zamfara has IDPs from about 1,008 communities across all 14 local government areas, as recorded in the State Social Register.
While commending ongoing interventions by development partners, Tsafe stressed that more aid is urgently needed to ease the suffering of displaced communities. He urged organisations such as the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) and Première Urgence Internationale (PUI) to scale up support through livelihood programmes, empowerment initiatives, and cash transfers.
He added that the state government, under Governor Dauda Lawal, has provided the political will and enabling environment for partners to operate effectively.
