Armed bandits on Friday attacked a mosque in Yandoto community, Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State, killing five worshippers and abducting several others.
Security analyst Zagazola Makama, who reported the incident on X (formerly Twitter), said the assault occurred around 5:00 a.m. during dawn prayers. The attackers reportedly stormed the mosque, opened fire on the congregation, and later fled with hostages into the surrounding forest.
Residents confirmed that funeral prayers were held later in the day for the victims, whom they described as devout Muslims known for their commitment to daily prayers.
Authorities have yet to issue an official statement, but the attack adds to the wave of banditry and abductions that have continued to plague Zamfara and other states in northwestern Nigeria, despite ongoing security operations.
