The Rivers State Police Command has announced comprehensive security measures to ensure a peaceful and secure Yuletide season across the state, in collaboration with sister security agencies.
The Command urged residents to embrace the festive period as a time for sober reflection, prayers and renewed commitment to peace and progress in Rivers State and the nation at large.
In a statement issued on Monday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, the Command disclosed that tactical teams have been deployed to strategic locations across the state.
These include entry and exit points, waterways, motor parks, hotels, recreational centres, churches, mosques and other identified hotspots.
According to the statement, the deployment is aimed at strengthening visibility policing, enhancing surveillance and ensuring swift response to any security threat.
SP Iringe-Koko further revealed that the Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju, has directed all Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers to fully deploy both operational and intelligence assets within their respective areas of responsibility to guarantee a smooth and hitch-free celebration.
The Command also noted that it is intensifying community engagement through sustained collaboration with traditional rulers, youth groups and religious leaders to build trust, boost public confidence and promote timely intelligence sharing.
“This proactive strategy is designed to detect and neutralise potential security threats before they escalate, thereby preventing incidents during the festive season,” the statement said.
The Police further advised parents and guardians to be vigilant over their wards and cautioned the public against the use of fireworks and knock-out shooting, warning that such activities pose serious safety risks.
Reaffirming its commitment to the protection of lives and property before, during and after the Christmas festivities, the Command urged residents to secure their homes by properly fastening doors and windows, remain alert, promptly report suspicious activities to the nearest police station, and refrain from spreading unverified information capable of causing public panic.
Members of the public are advised to report emergencies or security concerns through the nearest police station or via the Command’s contact lines: Control Room on 08032003514 and CRU on 08120822987.
The Rivers State Police Command extended warm Christmas wishes to all Christians and expressed hope for a peaceful and prosperous New Year for all residents.
