As part of measures to ensure a peaceful and hitch-free Yuletide celebration in Nasarawa State, the Commissioner of Police, CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed, has met with Area Commanders, Squadron and Operational Commanders, Divisional Police Officers (DPOs), and heads of tactical units across the state.
The meeting followed a directive by the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, to all police commands nationwide to strengthen security arrangements during the festive period.
According to the statement made available to newsmen in Nasarawa by the command’s spokesperson, SP Ramhan Nansel, CP Mohammed, while addressing senior officers, ordered what he described as “relentless raids on identified flashpoints and criminal hideouts,” alongside intensified confidence-building patrols and enhanced visibility policing across Nasarawa State.
He charged officers and men of the command to carry out their responsibilities with professionalism and dedication to ensure residents celebrate the season in a safe and secure environment.
“Our goal is to ensure that residents of Nasarawa State enjoy a peaceful and secure Yuletide celebration without fear or disruption,” CP Mohammed said.
The police commissioner also reiterated the standing ban on the use, sale and possession of knockouts and other explosive devices, warning that violators would face the full weight of the law.
“Anyone found in possession or involved in the use or sale of knockouts and other explosive devices will be dealt with in accordance with the law,” he warned.
He appealed to parents and guardians to caution their children and wards against engaging in activities that could endanger lives and property during the festivities.
“Parents and guardians must take responsibility by advising their children and wards to desist from activities capable of endangering lives and property during the festive season,” he added.
The Nasarawa State Police Command reassured residents of its commitment to the protection of lives and property before, during and after the Yuletide celebrations, urging members of the public to cooperate with security agencies and report suspicious activities promptly.
