The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), has warned Jigawa residents as well as Nigerians, to be watchful of human traffickers during the festive season.
According to the agency, increased travels and social interactions during the yuletide, creates more opportunity for human traffickers to thrive.
The state’s NAPTIP Commander, Mr Abdulkadir Turajo, gave the advise on Monday, in a Christmas message in Dutse.
Turajo warned residents that traffickers could use the festive period to exploit vulnerable youths, through deceptive job offers, fake trips or other means.
He, consequently, urged residents to always stay vigilant anywhere.
The commander further urged the public to report suspicious activities or movements to the agency or nearest security formation, so as to join hands in combating human trafficking.
“As we enter the festive season, increased travel and excitement also increase the risk of trafficking.
“Therefore, people should stay alert, verify offers and potect your loved ones; the festive season must never become a trafficking season,” he said.
Meanwhile, he urged parents and community leaders to also closely monitor children.
“Festive season’s rush and excitement are exploited by traffickers who use deception, promises of wealth, and fake opportunities to lure victims, so, we must ensure collective vigilance,” he said (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
