President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has assured Nigerians that the economic hardship currently being experienced will soon give way to recovery and prosperity, likening the challenges to the pain of a “surgery” that must be endured for healing.
Tinubu made the statement on Friday during the coronation of the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rasheed Adewolu Ladoja, held in Oyo State.
“The Economy Has Turned the Corner”
Speaking before dignitaries and residents gathered at the historic event, the President said the nation had survived the threat of economic collapse and was now heading toward stability and growth.
“To many of you here present, today I am honoured and I’m very proud to give you the cheering news that the economy has turned the corner. There is a bright light at the end of the tunnel,” Tinubu said. “Your suffering is the pain of a painful surgery. But it is now returned to the moment of growth and prosperity waiting for us ahead. Thank you for your perseverance. Thank you for your endurance.”
He stressed that Nigerians’ present hardship was temporary, and the reforms his government introduced would soon yield prosperity.
Ladoja Appeals for Creation of Ibadan State
During the coronation, Oba Ladoja used the occasion to make a direct appeal to the President, urging him to approve the creation of Ibadan State before 2027.
Delivering his request in Yoruba, the monarch said:
“My people sent me a message to Mr President. Mr President, they said the creation of Ibadan State is their priority.”
The call was made shortly after he received his staff of office in the presence of prominent dignitaries, including Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State.
Governor Makinde described the emergence of Ladoja as the new Olubadan as a historic moment for Ibadan, saying it brought pride and joy to the people of the ancient city.
“It is a great honour to join in celebrating the coronation and presentation of the Staff of Office to His Imperial Majesty, Oba Adewolu Ladoja, as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland. The joy and excitement that fill Ibadan today remind us of the importance of upholding our cherished traditions,” Makinde stated.
