“You See A Man Who Formed LP, They Had Millions Of Votes, Today They Can’t Have 100 Thousand–Akpabio

According to a report by Vanguard on Saturday, March 7, 2026, Senate President Godswill Akpabio on Saturday ridiculed opposition parties as the country edges closer to the 2027 general election, claiming they are disoriented and will remain so until the elections are concluded, with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) taking full control.

Akpabio made the remarks while speaking in Uyo, where Governor Umo Eno led the reception for Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu.

The First Lady visited Akwa Ibom to inaugurate the Senior Citizens Center, which was established by the state and named in her honour as well as in memory of Pastor Patience Eno, the late wife of Governor Eno.

The event, which also coincided with the 8 March 2026 World Women’s Day celebrations, evolved into a large political gathering.

The gathering featured the presence of Remi Tinubu and the wives of governors from Lagos, Imo, Cross River, Delta, Ekiti, Jigawa, Kano, Nasarawa, Niger, Ogun, and Ondo states, among others.

Senator Akpabio criticized opposition parties, describing them as disorganized and lacking direction, even as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has specified that official campaign activities are set to commence on 26 August 2026.

He asserted that the APC has already begun its campaigns while opposition parties remain uncertain of their strategy.

He highlighted the internal issues within the Labour Party, noting the party’s inability to maintain its previous electoral strength.

According to him, the party had once amassed millions of votes, but its current standing is dramatically reduced due to internal divisions and leadership struggles.

Akpabio emphasized the geographic fragmentation within the Labour Party, pointing out that the party has multiple factions operating independently in different regions.

He said some factions are in the North, others in the South, West, and East, creating confusion among supporters and weakening the party’s effectiveness.

The Senate President further stressed that the APC’s organization and coordination give it a significant advantage over fragmented opposition parties.

He implied that the ruling party’s cohesion and preparedness position it to dominate the upcoming elections across all levels of governance.

He also suggested that the opposition lacks a unified vision or strategy, which he claimed is causing them to lose ground both politically and electorally.

Akpabio portrayed this disunity as a critical vulnerability that the APC would continue to exploit in the lead-up to the polls.

During his address, Akpabio linked the political gathering to the celebration of women’s contributions and highlighted the collaboration of female leaders across various states.

He indicated that the presence of these leaders not only reinforced the political event but also underlined the role of women in supporting governance initiatives and state-led development projects.

Akpabio said, “You see a man who formed Labour Party, they had millions of votes, today they can’t have a hundred thousand votes, because Labour Party is distressed. They have different leaderships. Some in the North, some in the South, some West, some in the East.”See_More…
