A lecturer has gone viral after calmly responding to a student who reportedly told him, “you don’t know how to teach,” during a disrupted online class.
The incident occurred amid technical difficulties that affected a virtual lecture, highlighting ongoing concerns about internet reliability in Nigeria’s education sector.
The lecturer’s response, shared after the session, has drawn mixed reactions online, with some commending his composure while others pointed to the frustrations students face during unstable online learning.
Lecturer explains classroom disruption
Addressing the situation, the lecturer said: “The network was not very friendly during our class today. This made someone say, ‘the man does not even know how to do online class’. I want you to understand that we don’t have much power over network services in Nigeria. The only thing one can do is to probably change the network, location or browser. In my own case, I have already set up in the office and it’s not convenient moving around.”
Calls for understanding amid challenges
He further appealed to students to remain patient despite the disruptions. “So, please don’t be annoyed. I know it can be very frustrating when you are eager to learn but the coast is not clear. I respect and value you all. God bless you,” he added.
The situation reflects recurring complaints since the COVID-19 era, when many Nigerian institutions adopted virtual learning, exposing persistent infrastructure gaps.
