Workers’ Day: Osun NLC backs Adeleke’s re-election bid

By Olajide Idowu

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Osun on Friday endorsed Gov. Ademola Adeleke for a second term in office.

The endorsement was announced during the Workers’ Day celebration in Osogbo.

The NLC Chairman in the state, Mr Christopher Arapasopo, said the decision was in recognition of the governor’s favourable disposition toward workers.

Arapasopo described Adeleke as worker-friendly, noting that his administration had addressed longstanding labour issues that predated his tenure.

He said the governor had ensured prompt payment of salaries and was implementing wage increases for workers, as well as pensions for retirees.

The NLC chairman called on workers to support the governor’s administration and turn out en masse for the Aug. 15 governorship election.

“The governor is doing excellently well. Like Oliver Twist, we ask him to sustain the good gestures and do more.

“To whom much is given, much is expected. Therefore, we must vote for his second term in office,” he said.

In his response, Adeleke commended workers for the endorsement.

Represented by his deputy, Mr Kola Adewusi, the governor appreciated the leadership of the NLC for its cooperation, understanding and constructive engagement with his administration.

“As we approach another governorship election, I thank Osun workers for endorsing my re-election.

“With a deep sense of responsibility, we recognise that the race to victory has begun.

“We offer the continuation of our partnership for the delivery of democratic dividends.

“I urge you to come out en masse, vote for continuity and ensure that the progress achieved is not reversed,” he said.

Adeleke said his updated five-point agenda still prioritises the welfare of workers, youths and women.

He reassured workers that his administration would continue to prioritise their welfare, protect their rights and create an enabling environment for them to thrive.(NAN)
