The Kano State Police Command has arrested one Maimunatu Idris, 25, for allegedly attacking her boyfriend with a sharp knife after discovering his intention to marry another woman.
The Police Public Relations Officer in Kano, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa disclosed this in a statement on Monday.
He said the incident was reported to the police on July 27 at about 12:50pm by the management of Durbar Hotel, Badawa.
“The hotel management reported that one Maimunatu Idris, 25, of Maigatari LGA, Jigawa State, allegedly attacked her boyfriend with a sharp knife after discovering his intention to marry another woman. During the attack, the suspect severed the victim’s manhood.
“The Divisional Police Officer, Badawa Division, led detectives to the scene, arrested the suspect, and recovered the knife as an exhibit.
“The victim was immediately rushed to Abubakar Imam Urology Hospital for treatment and is currently receiving care. Investigation is ongoing,” Kiyawa said.
The Kano State Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, condemned the act of violence and warned residents to desist from taking the law into their own hands.
“The Nigeria Police Force is constitutionally empowered to investigate, arrest, and prosecute offenders through due process,” the CP said.
He assured the public that the command will conduct diligent and transparent investigation and the suspect(s) will be arraigned and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
CP Bakori also urged residents to provide timely and credible information to the Police and to report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station or through the Command’s emergency lines.
